All Things Floral

I’ve been waiting desperately for the weather to cool down ever since I bought this floral Rebecca Taylor jacket (on sale!) from ShopBop this summer:

I love the bright color and floral and was waiting for it to go on sale as soon as I saw it rocked on the runway. Some people find floral blazers terrible… I couldn’t love them more. It finally made it to the outside world today.

Interny things

This past week at my internship, I had my first ever “real intern” duties. Rushing around town, doing various errands a la internship from hell stories. And to be honest, I really couldn’t have enjoyed myself more. Strange, I know.

On Thursday I just did a bunch of returns, all over the city and its outskirts. I can tell you, there are a lot worse things than having a car full of fabulous clothes, home décor and expensive sunglasses. And best of all, you actually feel like you’re accomplishing something with each receipt that gets signed.

On Friday, I took on some marketing tasks. Whirl Magazine is having a coffee contest so I was sent out to promote it. Deliver posters and flyers to shops and generally spread the word. My poster hanging skills are pretty impeccable.

The contest is great. Pittsburghers get to vote on various categories like best latte, best live music, best ambiance, best fair trade brew etc.! If you live in the Pittsburgh area you should definitely vote here.

UGGly

I'm disappointed. It turns out Jimmy Choo paired up with UGG for a fall line. I felt as if UGGs were slowly becoming old news, sure to vanish entirely. Turns out I'm wrong.

Ah UGGs. I'll admit. I owned a pair or two in my time. Slipping into them after a dance class was a lovely feeling...

BUT I really don't condone wearing them out. Ever. And I'm not so sure anyone would claim them as fashion. The clunky, funny looking, and often grubby shoes need to find their way back down under. Here are some "fashion forward" UGGs that came out of the Choo/UGG collaboration .

Not so cute. And oh yeah, they range from $495-$795

Dragging My Heels

Lately, I've been noticing many feet predicaments that I wanted to pass along.

It appears Tivas are making a comeback?

Ah yes. If the camo shorts were enough he needs two different colored and length socks to complete the ensamble
Apparently, wearing shoes to class is vastly overrated (spotted more than once).

Fall Wishlist

After careful consideration, I’ve compiled a compact fall wishlist. When I decided to post about this I just decided to take a gander through my ShopBop wish list—only to realize that I have an insane number of items marked on my wish list, too many to share the number, (well out of my budget, mind you) that apparently I’m just dying to have for fall.

But here are some of them. Shopbop is a very dangerous thing...

1.) Leather shorts

2.) Multi-finger Ring

3.) Over the knee boots

4.) Button down denim shirt

5.) Something to remind me of summer
6.) Snake

7.) Lace Jacket

Fashion Week Winds Down

Fashion Week is now over. The fun prints, off-white hues, and retro inspiration pieces will start filling up the stores soon. In the mean time, we'll go back to prepping for cooler weather and those fall looks we've been waiting for.

But not quite yet.

I thought Oscar de la Renta's show was particularly fun. Spring should be flirty and this collection is. It leaves me yearning for may flowers (skipping those April showers of course).

Check it out here.

Can You Dig It?

The buzz word from fashion week is...drum roll please... seventies.

Apparently, retro is back in full swing. Forget The Wonder Years and the Superbowl winning Dolphins, the crazy fashion is back. And well, designers make it look groovy. Think more fun prints and feminine silhouettes and less never ending bellbottoms. Take a gander at some of the looks from Marc Jacob's show:

DVF

She never ceases to amaze me. Per usual, I loved her prints and her shows. Her collection and show were polished and fun. Take a look

Jason Wu's Collection

The LA times has put out some pictures of Jason Wu's line from Fashion Week. Wu gained fame after working with Michelle Obama on her gown for the inauguration ball. He's still pretty new to the scene though-his first complete collection debuted in 2008. Here are some of his beautiful looks:

Zac Posen is up tonight and Derek Lam, Rebecca Taylor and most importantly, Diane von Furstenberg are up tomorrow!

A Peek at Siriano

Christian's Spring 2011 is all drama and crazy platform shoes.

Happy Fashion Week!

Fashion week has kicked off in its brand new location (the Lincoln Center) and several designers have already showed off their stuff. The contestants for project runway also were showcased today! Except, as there are still 10 designers left on the show, all ten created collections to ensure the secret did not get out. The guest judge was none other than the lovely Jessica Simpson.
I can't wait to start posting pictures from the various shows. Up tomorrow is Alexander Berardi, BCBG, Nicole Miller and many others.

Dignity in DeFeet

Just today I learned about shoe designer, Martha Davis. After moving around a lot and traveling to Italy to learn all about shoes, she's now based in the Bay Area. Her stylish slips are funky-and far from the standard stilettos that fill up our favorite stores. Her shoes generally have oval heels and they make earthy and grungy feel totally chic.

Check out her Fall 2010 lookbook here.

Blast from the Past

While looking through old photo albums from my friend's childhood, I came face to face with one of the biggest trends from the 90's: Butterfly clips.
These were all the rage. And they were everywhere. Some girls pulled back bangs with one clip. Others managed to put around 15 clips (all different sizes and colors of course) in their hair at once.

They were absolutely tacky and horrible. But, at the same time, I'm really not ashamed to say that I owned a clip or two because we were all tragic fashion victims-all constantly readjusting our butterfly clips after recess and morning snack. More than any other trend (albeit velvet overalls from Gap were also pretty excellent and prominent), this butterfly clips seemed to dominate children's fashion back in day. I really can't think of anything else that was more popular or extreme.

But I'll always have a soft spot for the glittery clips... And I'm definitely proud to be from generation butterfly clip, not generation Silly Bandz.

Technology and Fashion

One of the first articles I wrote for Her Campus was about the growing importance of fashion blogs. Bloggers have become so important. Anyone from anywhere can offer an opinion on designer X’s newest line, critique the hotshots in the industry, or raise an unknown talent into a fashion’s newest star (among so many other far-reaching affects you can read about in my article!)

The industry has undoubtedly responded. They’ve acknowledged bloggers (like Bryant Boy and Jane Aldridge, to name a few) and made a huge push for technology to cover all aspects of the industry—including fashion week. I’m counting down the days until I get to see what my favorite designers have been up to. And what’s especially excellent about this huge new technology push is that aspiring fashionistas, wherever they may be stranded, Pittsburgh for example, can watch shows live!

More on the "comfy" shoe predicament

This will be my last post about dressy outfits paired with terrible shoes. I promise. But I was tromping around Pittsburgh yesterday and ran into this:

A suit... and TIVAS? They very well might be worse than sneakers...

Lindsay's Line

After Lohan's quick (too quick?) stint in jail, I seemingly forgot all about her clothing line, 6126, until today. Singer 22 showcased it and began selling some pieces. The line made headlines for having not only 280 looks for the fall but also a serious range of prices, $60-$1100.

Lindsay's aesthetic hasn't always been the best, but who knows how much she was designing anyway? Take a glimpse at a few of the items now available at Singer22.com
